The most rewarding part of being a Phi Mu is involving yourself with a group of sisters dedicated to something more than themselves. As Phi Mu ladies we strive to make a difference in our local community. From making hospital visits to hosting events on campus benefiting CHKD, Phi Mu strives to to make a difference at our local CMNH. The sisters of Phi Mu are dedicated to service as we live by our creed: to lend to those less fortunate a helping hand.
Philanthropy has changed and grown over the years that Phi Mu has been on Christopher Newport University's campus. Our events have changed, grown, and impacted not only our philanthropies but the hearts of our sisters. The passion the sisters of Phi Mu have for philanthropy is shown to be true in their dedication to successful philanthropic events. Read below to learn more about our events!
CaptaTHON - Miracle Network Dance Marathon
In the fall we hold our annual Miracle Network Dance Marathon to raise money for CHKD. Although there has been success from our Dance Marathon in years past, we rebranded for the Fall 2017 Dance Marathon. Under the lead of alumna sister Courtney Morgan, a leadership team was formed and the name "CaptaTHON" was coined. Through gains of corporate sponsors such as Panda Express and Allstate, connections with a CHKD Hospital Advisor, a Miracle Network Dance Marathon Advisor, and support of the CNU Community, we ended up raising a total of $21,203.58 for CHKD!
Kendra Scott Gives Back Party
In the fall, we work with Kendra Scott to host a Give Back Party. In 2017, we hosted the event in our chapter house in Greek Village and invited everyone on campus to join us for a night of shopping. A percentage of all sales made during the evening were then donated to Phi Mu Foundation. In addition to shopping for a good cause, attendees enjoyed sweet treats such as mini cupcakes!
Each Spring we host our annual Greek Auction. The event consists of auctioning off items personalized for Greek members on CNU's campus. Items range from hard-letter shirts to organization-themed painted coolers. Spring 2018's Greek Auction Chair, Meghan Ries, was a huge success with the inclusion of new chapters and new merchandise! The proceeds from Greek Auction are donated to the Phi Mu Foundation, which provides academic scholarships and support to our sisters in need.
Frats at Bat
During the Spring of 2018, we hosted our first Frats At Bat! Under the leadership of our 2018 Philanthropy chair, Hannah Hill, we hosted the first ever wiffle ball competition on CNU's campus. Despite chillier temperatures of that March Saturday, the event was competitive, fun, and a great addition to Phi Mu's dedication to philanthropy. All proceeds went to Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters!
